So this was my first attempt at my very own "made from scratch" fondant cake. I was first inspired by the many cake shows that I had become interested in on T.V..."CAKE BOSS", is a regular favorite at our house along with "Ulitmate Cakeoff", "Fabulous Cakes" and Ultimate Cake Challenge". Yes, I'm fully aware that it's borderline obsession but I absolutely fell in LOVE with the idea of making and decorating cakes and decided that I wanted to start my own business that I could hopefully grow into a legacy that I can someday pass onto my kids. (Lofty idea I know.) Anyway, this was my first attempt at a "real cake" and since then, I've enjoyed every minute!! Note: At the time I baked this one I was living with my grandma and struggling with her 1940's lighting so you'll have to be patient with the my photographic abilities. :)
I found a wonderful marshmallow fondant recipe online that is SUPER simple and tastes fabooo! The only drawback is that it is not as firm as traditional fondant so I had difficulty with the shape integrity of my ribbons and bow. But I loved the flavor much better plus the fact that it is about a million times cheaper to produce than regular fondant. Tips for success: LOTS of confectioner sugar and try not to be in a hot kitchen.
The recipe was a strawberry vanilla and I decided to try a checker cake pattern. I used a butter cream frosting inside and for the crumb coat, or "dirty ice" and we like to call it. Can you say SWEET!!!! :)
All-in-all I think everyone was pretty happy with how it turned out. "Tre' delish!!!!"
